And then there were two...(more)

Posted September 7, 2011

The past couple weeks I did some reorganizing of the farm.

After the big processor/farm upgrade it just gave me the initiaive to reorganize. Moved some stuff around, moved a rack, adjusted machines for better airflow and cooling and in the process got rid of one desk which allowed a rack to be moved and reorganized so it cleard up space for two more render clients on the shelves.

So with these to additional render machines the farm is now 128 CPU total and 32 clients - just a nice easily divisible by 8 number like computers prefer, I feel better about that number.

So, now with these additional two render nodes - RenderKing offers up to 588+ ghz of 64 bit 128 quad core with hyperthreaded processing (for 8 total/256 cores) rated up to 286 CineBench http://www.maxon.net/downloads/cinebench/ of render power (each render node 8.92CB avg.) supporting Maxon Cinema 4D R11.530, R12.048 and VRAY (via VRAYforC4D) software.

It consists of 32 quad core Intel i7 2600K processors overclocked to 4.6ghz, each render station is equipped with 16GB of fast dual channel DDR3-1600 ram (for an efficient 4GB memory for each processor core) and large, fast SATA hard drives and gigabit networking.

I also replaced every Battery Backup UPS with even bigger capacity UPS to make sure the battery backup and stability of the farm is kept even with the increased wattage load. Which also allowed me a good time to go over and balance the electrical loads on the wires and circuits and balance out the amperage to keep the current stable.

These are all just good administrative updates and upgrades that keep RK moving in a positive direction and to ensure that teh farm infastructure is well maintained and kept up with the advancements in processors and overall render speeds.

As always, thank you for using RenderKing.

RenderKing render farm now 300% faster

RenderKing render farm now 300% faster

RenderKing offers up to 550+ ghz of 64 bit 120 quad core with hyperthreaded processing (for 8 total/240 cores) rated up to 270 CineBench http://www.maxon.net/downloads/cinebench/ of render power (each render node 8.92CB avg.) supporting Maxon Cinema 4D R11.026, R11.530, R12.032 and VRAY (via VRAYforC4D) software.

It consists of 30 quad core Intel i7 2600K processors overclocked to 4.6ghz, each render station is equipped with 16GB of fast dual channel DDR3-1600 ram (for an efficient 4GB memory for each processor core) and large, fast SATA hard drives and gigabit networking.

What i've found in my latest upgrade research is that counting gigahertz or the number of cores are not the deciding factor anymore.

A current 4 core i7 can be faster then a year or two old 8 core xeon - and if the farm is built on machines more then a couple years old make sure you know what you are paying for - do your research and compare using CineBench as an unbiased basis of performance.

You can't just count cores anymore to see what is faster. I am amazed that the same 120CPU in Core i7 is nearly 300% faster then 120 cores in Q6600 - amazing performance in the same number of cores. and as always RenderKing is built 100% homogeneous - so no old and new crazy mix of processors, no slightly different processor calculations and performance between render clients - and no render surprises at the last minute.

RenderKing was the first flat rate priced render farm in 2002 - it literally changed the industry as nearly all farms now offer flat rate pricing now - compared to the spiraling ghz hour time based calculations. with RenderKing i've never hid the numbers, always given the specs and the hardware used in the farm so you can make an educated decision on where you spend your render budget. no secret sauce, no confusing credits, no "special" pricing games and endless discount schemes to lure you you in with no clear final price that can blow your budget.

RenderKing is very proud to be beginning it's 10th year of service to the Cinema 4D community.

Thank you for using RenderKing.
